Man Bun Alert: May Cause Baldness

To all the super trendy long-haired men out there, beware. A dermatologist recently claimed that man buns are causing baldness! Hipster men everywhere and Jared Leto look-a-likes listen up and loosen up your buns.

Buzzwords: "Traction Alopecia"

According to Dr. Sullivan in Jackson, MS, the tight hairstyle is causing traction alopecia. This is a condition which causes acute baldness around the forehead and temples. Pulling your hair up into a tight bun pulls on and damages the follicles around the hairline.

This is not just a warning for hipster dudes, women are at risk too. Wearing your hair up in a tight bun, pony tail, or even braids can cause the same damage and gradual hair loss.

How To Avoid Traction Alopecia

Switch up your hairstyle. Wear your hair down, or in a looser fashion to avoid the most serious damage. You should always wear your hair down while you sleep and never leave it in a tight hairstyle all day every day. Not only does this cause breakage in the hair strands, but also damage to the follicles.
