Hair Coloring Salon Services | Charleston, SC

Before your big day, you’ll want to prep and make sure you look your absolute best. You’ve chosen your bridal hair style, made your waxing appointment, and settled on your makeup style. Now it’s time to get those lovely tresses colored. Make your appointment early and consult with your stylist, to help ensure you’re happy with the style and color you wear on your big day!

Prepare

When you come to your initial consultation, be sure to bring plenty of samples showing what you have in mind. It’s best to bring at least 3-5 photos of what you want, to give the stylist a firm idea of your goal. If you’re not certain of what you want, your stylist can help. She’s trained in matching your shade to your skin tone and style.

Come Clean

You may be a bit embarrassed to admit that you’ve tried a box of hair color from the drugstore. Don’t be. It’s absolutely essential that your stylist knows your hair’s history. Different treatments affect your hair, and she’ll need to know what’s been done so that she doesn’t try layering chemicals on old treatments, and causing damage.

Plan to Spend Time

Hair color can take a surprisingly long time to apply. Depending upon the shade and the degree of change, expect your appointment to last from several hours to a full day. Remember that a quality job can’t be rushed, and talk to your stylist in advance about how long your color will take.

Realistic Expectations

If your natural color is a luscious pitch black, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to go honey-blonde without extensive treatment. Your stylist knows what’s possible and what’s reasonable. She can also give you advice about what will look best with your skin tone. Take advantage of her expertise and let her help you look your best on your big day.

Waxing Services | Charleston, SC

When grooming for your upcoming wedding, you’ll want to get a new haircut, color, and experiment with several makeup styles to discover which works best for you. One area that a lot of brides-to-be neglect, however, is personal grooming. Lashes and Lace offers full spa services, including facial, body, and below-the-belt waxing. For best results, moisturize your skin every day except the day of your waxing. Exfoliate gently, and keep your skin scrupulously clean. Examine the areas to be waxed for irritation or broken skin.

Facial Waxing

Facial waxing cleans up the brow, lip, chin, sideburns, and other problem areas. Depending upon your particular situation, you may wish to opt to have individual areas waxed, or choose a full face waxing. You’ll want to schedule your waxing service for a few days to a week before the wedding, in order to allow any irritation or redness to fade before your big day.

Body Waxing

Some women have thicker, more noticeable body hair than others. If your body hair is thick or dark, you may wish to have your shoulders, arm, chest, back, or stomach waxed. Most ladies opt for at least underarm and leg waxing. Your special day should be completely free of distractions. You’ll want to look your absolute best, so treat yourself to smooth, vibrant skin.

Below-the-Belt Waxing

All of the preparations, months of anticipation and planning, lead up to a single night. Of course you want your wedding night to be perfect. Lashes and Lace Spa offers a full lineup of waxing services to suit every taste and hair type. From the classic bikini wax that trims the lady garden’s edges, to our “Kit-n-Kaboodle,” also known as a full Brazilian, we offer an option to suit your desire.

Be sure to schedule your waxing appointment well in advance and pamper yourself with silky-smooth skin for your special day.

Summer Up-Dos – Lashes and Lace Charleston, SC

When it comes to hairstyles, the options can feel overwhelming. The Charleston summer heat is no joke, so if you’re getting married in the dog days, consider the up-do option to keep your cool throughout the ceremony and beyond.

Pre-wedding Hair Care

Be sure to use clarifying shampoo and good quality conditioner in the months leading up to the wedding. Regular trims allow your hair to grow out thick and healthy. Avoid silicone or other –cone based products, as they tend to seal hair and keep vital moisture from reaching the hair shaft. Instead, seek out high quality, deep moisturizing products that bring out the natural shine without suffocating the hair shaft.

Braiding

From traditional braids to fish tails, to braided buns, to a combination of styles, the classic braid is one that never goes out of style. A slightly messy chignon knot pairs well with a braid from the side, creating a romantic look. For a more traditional look, try a braid interspersed with flowers. A fishtail- a smooth form of braid, is another more casual option that allows for a variety of forms.

Styles with a Twist

The classic ballerina bun doesn’t have to be boring. Consider adding a braid for interest and texture, leading in to the bun. Remember that your bun doesn’t have to sit daintily at the base of the neck. It can perch atop your head, framed in a flower circlet, or anchor a tiara. A side-bun can be quite elegant if styled correctly.

The Classic Ponytail

While you may not want to rock pigtails walking down the aisle, don’t overlook the humble pony tail. Especially appropriate for straight hair, a pony accessorized with a braid wrapped around its base can give your look a little extra whimsical swing while keeping your hair well off your neck.

Whatever updo look you prefer, simple or extravagant, elegant or romantic, casual or formal, talk to your stylist about your dress style, your personal preference, and your hair type, and we’ll find the perfect do for your special day.

Make-Up for Your Summer Wedding – Charleston, SC

Who hasn’t dreamed of a summer wedding? Sun, breezes, perhaps an outdoor venue with the lush hues of summer providing a glorious backdrop for photographs. It all adds up to a romantic fantasy. The downside of summer weddings is the heat, the perspiration, and the risk of a makeup meltdown to spoil the day. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to avoid disaster during your summer wedding and have beautiful looking make-up for your summer wedding.

Don’t Overdo It

First and foremost, consider the look you’re going for. Heavy, caked makeup doesn’t look good in any weather. Fortunately, experienced cosmetologists like those you’ll meet at the Lashes & Lace salon, understands how to apply the correct products for your skin type and for the weather.  Airbrushing provides a lighter application than traditional makeup, and may provide a longer-lasting look for your summer wedding.

Consider Lash Extensions

Your special day is a time to shine, and a time to highlight your best features. Lash extensions take a mere one and a half hours to apply, and last up to 4 weeks. They give your eyes a naturally beautiful highlight and really make your overall look pop. Far more durable than the glue-on false lashes from the drug store, extensions look and feel natural and look amazing.

Treat Your Skin Right

You’ll want to schedule your facial, and any tinting services, well in advance of your wedding day, to ensure that your skin will look fresh and radiant. Talk to us about brow and eyelash tinting, and our relaxing facial massage services. Pamper your skin, and prepare to put your best face forward, no matter what makeup pallet you choose for your wedding day.

Bridal Hair Styles For Your Summer Wedding

Your summer wedding is fast approaching, and your plans for the dress, the venue, and your hairstyle are coming together. Should you go long or short? Elegant or casual? Natural or curled, coiffed, and smooth? These are questions you’ll want to ask early and discuss with your stylist ahead of time so your style on your big day lives up to your wedding dreams.

Prepare for Your Appointment

Before you come in to your stylist, begin the same way you probably did when seeking your perfect dress- look through bridal magazines at styles and think about what style you’d prefer and which is likely to suit you and your hair type. Try to keep an open mind and remember that your style will be as unique and beautiful as you are. Be sure to schedule a consultation early, so you’ll have time to experiment with different looks and decide upon the right style for you.

Collect Pictures of Your Ideal Style

The best thing you can do for your stylist is collect photos and images of the looks that most intrigue you. With some idea of the direction you’re heading in, your stylist can better understand the look that will best suit your desires and personal taste. When looking at styles, either online or in magazines, create a folder of your favorites to share with your stylist.

Trust your Stylist

Remember that your stylist is a professional who has created styles for hundreds of brides. She will work with you and listen to what you want, and help you discover the style that best suits your hair, your personal taste, and the wedding. Whether you’re looking for a casual, long style with curls falling naturally around your face, or an elegant updo with a bun, twist or braid, your stylist will work with you to create the look that brings out your natural glow and makes your special day one to remember.

The Benefits of Facials – Charleston, SC

When you’re getting ready for your wedding day, self-care often takes a back seat to preparations, plans, and organizing the big event. Self-care, however, is critical if you want to look your best when you walk down the aisle. Getting a facial before your wedding is a great idea for several reasons.

A facial massage doesn’t just reduce stress, it helps cleanse your pores and sends essential oils deep into the skin to help renew and refresh the cells, releasing a healthy glow.

It Feels Great

Let’s be honest- the best reason to get a facial before your wedding is that it feels great. You’re getting ready for one of the most important events in your life. What Is a Keratin Treatment?- Charleston, SC

If you have naturally curly or wavy hair that just can’t seem to stay straight, a Keratin hair treatment (also known as a Brazilian hair treatment) might be right for you. This type of hair treatment smooths out and straightens wavy or curly hair. Lashes and Lace offers Keratin treatments at our salon in Mt. Pleasant, SC!

How a Keratin Treatment Works

Basically, a stylist will apply a keratin product to your hair. This product will most likely have some amount of formaldehyde in it, so your stylist will carefully avoid getting the product on your scalp. The treatment remains in the hair as it is blow-dried and then flat-ironed. Some stylists wear masks as they do the treatment and they may have you wear one, too. Treatments are usually done near an open window with a fan blowing. The treatments usually take 2 hours or longer depending on the length and thickness of your hair. After the treatment, your hair should be curl and wave-free, but you should not wash your hair for 3-4 days to ensure the treatment remains effective. The treatment lasts usually about 2 months or a little longer. However, you may have to blow-dry or flat-iron your hair to get it straight as the treatment wears off. But, your blow drying time will be cut down by about 40-60% if you have had a Keratin treatment.

Am I a Candidate?

Unlike some hair straightening treatments, Keratin treatments can be done on color-treated hair. They work well on people with wavy to tight curly hair. If you are sick of fighting the frizz, you'll love the results from the keratin treatments– they get rid of frizz even in humid or rainy weather.

Lashes and Lace in Charleston, SC

If you are considering getting a keratin hair treatment, look no further than Lashes and Lace Charleston! Contact our salon at (843) 388-3073 or our bridal services at (843) 568-3625 if you have any questions. To set up an appointment, contact us here.

Hair Accessories for Brides- Charleston, SC

Hair accessories are a great way to accentuate your wedding outfit. Whether you choose flowers, a headband, or a clip, your wedding hair look will be elegant, stylish, and unlike any other bride’s. Each piece has its own personality and you can choose one that will match both your wedding theme and your personal style.

Flowers

If you’re having a summer wedding, the perfect bridal hair accessory would have to be a flower. Whether you pin one to an elegant up-do or make a crown out of them that will sit on the top of your head, flowers are a great way to bring some natural beauty into your style. Accessorizing with flowers is also a great way to complement your wedding color scheme— or have your wedding color scheme complement you.

Headband

It doesn’t matter if you have your hair up or down, a headband is an excellent option for a hair accessory. There are so many bridal headbands to choose from. You could go for a gold headband with floral and leaf embellishments, a wider, crystal embedded headband, or even a vintage-looking headband with dangling gold chains and crystal accents. Some headbands even look like crowns, and there’s nothing wrong with feeling like royalty on your special day!

Clip

If you’re going for a hair accessory that’s subtler, a clip might be best for you. Clips can go underneath a high bun, on top of a low up-do, or even on the side of your head if you’re wearing your hair down. Versatile and always classy, the right clip can make your whole outfit come together. Splurge on a delicate gold and crystal clip to sit atop your bun, a feather-like clip to go behind your ear and hold your hair back, or a brass clip with layers of delicate leaves to sit directly underneath your high bun at the back of your head.

What to Look for in an On-Site Bridal Stylist- Charleston, SC

If you don’t already have a hairstylist that you know and who knows your hair, there are a few other options you can consider. One of these is to hire an on-site bridal stylist. Every stylist in your area will be different, so it’s important to find one that’s right for you and knows how to help you achieve the look you want.

Here are a few things to look for in an on-site bridal stylist:

  1. Flexibility. It’s your wedding day, of course you’re going to want to try out different hair styles! Make sure to find an on-site bridal stylist that is okay with spending a little extra time playing with your hair and finding the style you like the best.
  2. Skill level. While it might be fun for you and some friends to try an amateur hair stylist for a night out to support their growing business, chances are they won’t have as much experience or skill with hair styling. For one of the biggest days in your life, splurge on an on-site bridal stylist that has a high skill level and knows how to create a look perfect for you.
  3. What they offer. Different on-site bridal stylists have a variety of packages and offerings available. Make sure you choose one that offers exactly what you want. For example, you might want your whole bridal party to have their hair done by an on-site bridal stylist. In this case, you would want to look for stylists that offer bridal party packages
  4. Compatibility. This one isn’t as important as the other three, but it’s always nice to be able to talk and have fun with the person who will be standing behind your chair for a good chunk of time on your wedding day! Friendly hairstylists will also be more likely to be understanding and flexible to your needs, should they change.

Bridal Hair Trends This Season- Charleston, SC

Knowing what hairstyle to choose for your wedding can be a daunting task. You’ll want something that fits your style, but isn’t too hard to maintain throughout the day. It has to go with your dress and wedding scheme, but also be cute, elegant, and timeless all in one. For the brides who have yet to figure out what they want to do with their hair for their wedding day, here are the current bridal hair trends for this season.

Hairpieces

As we see more brides depart from tradition, one of the first things to go is the veil. This classic piece is often replaced with hairpieces, such as small tiaras, brocade, or even jewelry. This is a great opportunity to incorporate something significant to you.

Look for a meaningful headpiece, like a family heirloom. An accessory like this often feels classic while still offering a way to update standard wedding traditions.

Ponytails

Many brides opt for a ponytail — either low or slicked back — to help them keep their hair out of their way during what can be a long, tiring day. If a ponytail feels too casual, try updating it with the addition of braids, flowers, or accessories. To complete the look, try taking a strand of hair from the ponytail and wrapping around the hair tie to conceal it — it's an easy tip, but one that will instantly elevate your look.

Loose Waves

Loose waves have been taking over the hair scene over the past few years and officially transitioned into one of the hottest wedding styles. By combing through curls or using a wand, you can give classic curls a modern refresh.

Braids

Braids are a catch-all style that works for virtually every type of wedding. For a casual beach wedding, go with something loose and wispy, while fishtail braids are well-suited for a bohemian wedding and braided up-dos work well for more formal events.

Flowers

Many modern brides skip the veil — or accentuate it — by placing flowers in their hair, often tucked into an existing style. Flowers can be weaved into braids, worked into up-dos, bobby-pinned into curls, and even work with the wedding colors or themes to coordinate with the bouquet.

Asymmetry

An asymmetrical style — the new-school version of the half-up-half-down classic — can come in many different forms, and works with the hair being left down or put up. Side-swept waves give a nod to old Hollywood glamour, while an off-centered up-do maintains the ideal balance between modern style and classic beauty.

This Season's Wedding Trends

Wedding trends change from year to year and from season to season. From dresses to the overall look of your wedding, it’s hard to keep track of what’s in style and what isn’t. Here are a few wedding features that are currently trending.

Dresses

Traditionally, the bride’s wedding dress is white, elegant, and long. With fashion trends constantly changing, there’s no telling where the style of your wedding dress might end up. In 2016, some dress features are more stylish than others. For example, long sleeves are coming back. Usually lace, these sleeves are somewhat traditional, but also capture visual interest. Another feature of wedding dresses you will often see are plunging necklines. Dresses that show off your shoulders and chest are widely popular among brides today. Feathers are another aspect of wedding dresses that brides are loving. Make a bridal statement with a dress that uses feathers to add dimension and fun to your wedding.

The Look

You want your guests to enjoy and remember your wedding for years to come. This is why couples nowadays are using metallics, lighting, and destination wedding ideas to spice up their special day. Metallics are incredibly versatile and can be used to make your wedding elegant, whimsical, ethereal, or even natural. Use glitzy golds to pop out room decor at a black-tie wedding or copper lanterns at an outdoor reception or on a rustic tablescape. Wedding lighting is the best and simplest way to establish both a romantic and intimate environment. Use pendant lights with bare “Edison” bulbs, chandeliers (both vintage and modern) and candelabras to cast a soft glow. Lastly, couples are using images and aspects from destinations, their hometowns, their alma maters, and places important to them to decorate their wedding. For example, if you got engaged in Paris, bring in vintage street lamps to light the reception, have Edith Piaf songs playing during dinner and use bistro signage for the bar.
