Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial Run- Why You Need It

Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial Run- Why You Need It

Your big day requires preparation and care. You’ve tried on your dress, had it fitted and adjusted to make sure it will be perfect for your wedding. You’ve taken the time to choose the perfect shoes, the perfect veil, and perfect accessories. Why would you take any less care with your hair and makeup? Trial runs help solidify your final look and ensure that everything is perfect on your big day.

Hair

If you’re going to cut, color, or otherwise change your hair, you’ll want to do so well in advance of the wedding, and allow for time for a final styling before the big day. Your artist needs time to perfect your style and ensure that you get the look you’re aiming for. If you’ve had a trial run, you know what your final look is like and you know your hair will cooperate in falling into place with the style you’ve chosen. A trial run helps ensure that the look you found in a magazine or on a website that you thought looked fabulous on the model still works when applied to your own hair.

Makeup

Choosing your pallete is an important part of your overall wedding day look. Your artist is skilled at choosing the correct colors for your skin tone and desired level of formality, but she will need time to experiment with the look you want. Communication is key, and showing your artist several pictures of the look you’d like to emulate helps ensure you get the perfect makeup for your big day. A trial run gives you time to experiment with different looks and get the one you want.

Give Yourself Time

Schedule your hair and makeup trials well in advance of the wedding itself, but not more than 3-4 weeks in advance, to allow time for changes to your plan or look. Those final weeks will fly by in a whirl of activity, so be sure to allow plenty of time for facials, tanning, hair appointments, and waxing. We work with you to ensure your big day goes smoothly. Schedule your appointment today.

Onsite Bridal hair & Makeup - What to expect.

The Lashes & Lace team will work with you throughout the process of planning your wedding to assure that you can count on us to be on time and prepared on your big day. A trial run allows you to try several looks and we’ll take pictures so that your preferred style can be perfectly recreated on your wedding day.

Looking Back at a 2017 Trend: Lash Extensions

Ah, mermaid lashes. Those long, voluptuous, iridescent colored lashes that were all the rage last year. While that specific trend has cooled in popularity, lash extensions have been around since 1911 and are a trend that is not likely to go away any time soon.

Pros of Lash Extensions

Imagine waking up in the morning and not needing to reach for any mascara to wake yours eyes up and make them stand out. Imagine having long, fluttering lashes without the least bit of effort on your part. That is the advantage to lash extensions. They enhance the natural look of your lashes and add a touch of magic and romance to any look. You don’t need smudge-proof mascara; your lash extensions hold their color beautifully. There’s no need for makeup remover or worry about smudging. Lash extensions can give you a confidence boost and be the finishing touch on your preparations for your big day.

Is there a Down Side?

For most women, the only downside of lash extensions is the cost and effort of maintenance. If you’re going to wear extensions all the time, it can become a chore to remember to keep them dry, not to rub your eyes, and to spend an hour having your lashes refilled. If you’re getting extensions for a special occasion, however, like your wedding, lash extensions are very affordable and convenient, and add a sparkle to your look that’s difficult to match with any other technique.

Lashes and Lace Lash Extensions

When you have your lashes extensions applied by one of our Lashes and Lace estheticians, you can have confidence knowing that our trained staff applies the highest quality extensions, ensuring the fairy tale look you’re seeking for your special day. Add airbrushed or traditionally applied makeup and our hair salon and skin care services, and you’ll feel like a princess walking down the aisle. Call today for your consultation and we’ll start planning your wedding look.

Everything You Need To Know Before Your Waxing Appointment

For many brides, waxing has not been a normal part of their routine, but they want to look and feel their radiant best for their special day. Preparing for your waxing appointment ensures that you’ll have smooth, glowing skin following the appointment and for several weeks to come. It also ensures that your waxing is as comfortable and effective as possible.

Several Weeks Before

Stop shaving between one and two weeks before your appointment. You want your hair to be long enough for the wax to grab, but not too long or the waxing will be less effective. 1/8 to ¼ inch is the ideal length. Monitor your hair growth and stop shaving for one to two weeks prior to your appointment. If you’re going for a bikini wax, trim the hair to be waxed down to the ¼ to 1/8 length prior to your appointment for the best results. Examine your skin carefully. Any irritation or broken skin will have to heal before it can be waxed.

Several Days Before

Leading up to your waxing appointment, you’ll want to continue your moisturizing routine. Plump, healthy skin will respond best to the waxing, and will more easily release the wax from the skin, leaving you less sensitive and resulting in an overall more comfortable experience. Continue your exfoliating routine, as well, but avoid using harsh creams or techniques in the days leading up to your waxing. You don’t want your skin to be overly sensitive. Washing with a washcloth is a good option. Just be sure not to scrub too hard. If you’re going for a bikini wax, keep the area scrupulously clean leading up to your appointment. You’ll want the skin to be as healthy as possible.

The Day of Your Waxing

When the big day comes, first of all, relax! You’re doing something good for yourself. Avoid heavy exfoliation. Wash with a mild soap, and skip the moisturizer. If you’re having your eyebrows or facial hair waxed, skip the makeup as well. Plan to relax and pamper your skin for the rest of the day. Be sure to pick up a soothing salve like a cortisone cream to apply following your appointment, and avoid heavy exercise and sun for a day or so following your waxing. Most of all, enjoy your new, smooth, beautiful skin!

Bridal Airbrushing | Charleston, SC

When choosing between bridal airbrushing and traditional makeup, there are some differences that you need to understand.  Each option has pros and cons. Airbrushed makeup is waterproof and does not transfer onto other surfaces, while traditional makeup may offer more versatility in your look. The best way to choose your makeup is to plan ahead. Book practice appointments with your makeup artist, and we’ll try several looks to ensure that you get the one you want on your big day.

Airbrushed Makeup

Airbrushed makeup is applied by an experienced Lashes and Lace technician. It goes on in an ultra-thin layer, letting your own natural glow shine through. Waterproof and smudge-resistant, airbrushed makeup doesn’t need to be touched up throughout the day or evening hours. An application can last as long as 16 hours, and will maintain a flawless look throughout. Be sure to “blot” rather than wiping at sweat or tears to maintain your makeup. Airbrushing is recommended for brides who are concerned about blemishes, spotting, or uneven tones in their skin. Combined with a full facial from Lashes and Lace, an airbrushed look can give you a flawless face for your wedding day.

Traditional Makeup

Traditional makeup comes in the widest variety of shades, consistencies, and quality. At Lashes and Lace, we use only the highest quality products. Traditional makeup is applied using sponges, applicators, and even fingertips. You can choose from nearly any color. Your artist will work with you to discover the hues that best reflect your natural beauty and fit into the theme of your wedding. Traditional makeup may require minor touch ups throughout the hours following application. Your makeup artist will discuss maintenance and care of your makeup with you at your appointment.

How to Choose

Your choice of traditional or airbrushed bridal makeup will depend upon a number of factors. The type of palate you want for your makeup, whether you prefer sheer or full coverage, a matte or satin look, and your personal preference will all come into play. Be sure to book your appointment with us well ahead of time, so that you and your artist can discuss your look and experiment to find the right look for you. Flower Girl Hair (10 & Under) in Charleston, SC

Next to the bride, the flower girl is the minor star of the wedding-day show. She’s the supporting cast to the bride’s big walk down the aisle, preparing the guests for the stunning beauty of the bride with the charm of an innocent. You’ll want your flower girl’s style to match your bridesmaids’ and the overall theme of your wedding. Dealing with children during a formal service which requires expected behaviors can be challenging, but with some flexibility and understanding of the child’s personality, needs, and comfort, she can bring memorable moments to your wedding day. Your best bet? Consult the child’s parents in matters of comfort, and keep those suggestions in mind when choosing a hairstyle for your flower girl.

Updos

The classic updo is a splendid choice for a child’s fine hair. A smooth top knot, messy bun, braided bun, or twist, the possibilities are nearly endless. Children’s hair tends to be finer and lighter than adults’ hair, so take into consideration the volume of the child’s hair and the shape of the face when choosing the right updo. Ideally, the hair should frame the cherubic face, and the design of the updo should provide a nice contrast of texture and smoothness. Adding flowers, a headband, tiara, or other accessory is a nice foil for smooth, straight hair.

Natural Beauty

You may choose a more casual style for your flower girl, especially if the child is sensitive. Tight updos may be uncomfortable for some children. If she’s uncomfortable, it’s less likely that you can expect your flower girl to carry out her duties smoothly and with a smile. Casual styles may include a half-braid which stops half-way down and blends into the rest of the hair, or twists that bring the top and front of the hair back and away from the face. Half-updo styles allow for creativity and adding texture to the style without the need for tight fastenings that might make the child uncomfortable. Lashes and Lace salon staff has extensive experience in creating beautiful, comfortable styles for children. Make your appointment today.

Spray Tans for your Fall Wedding | Charleston, SC

With fall around the corner, the golden glow you worked so hard to obtain all summer may be fading. Or you may be following a healthier routine of avoiding over-exposure to the sun. Whatever the case, a spray tan with FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a safe and attractive alternative to putting your skin at risk under tanning lamps. Coming in for a spray tan prior to your wedding is the best way to ensure you carry a healthy glow down the aisle on your special day.

Before Your Spray Tan

A spray tan lasts, on average, 4-10 days, depending upon your maintenance routine and your skin chemistry. You’ll want to plan your appointment accordingly. Any waxing appointments or exfoliation, including facials or chemical peels, should be completed well in advance of your tanning appointment. It is recommended that you wax a full 24 hours before your tanning session, to allow your skin time to prepare.

On the day of your appointment, shower and exfoliate to remove any dead skin cells. This will help ensure the product is applied evenly and prevent streaking or patching. Do not apply any lotions or use scented body wash. Plan to wear dark, loose-fitting clothing. You will not be able to shower, swim, or engage in vigorous exercise for at least 6-8 hours following your tanning session.

During your Spray Tan Appointment

You may wish to wear minimal clothing during your appointment for the best coverage. Remember that any clothing will result in tan lines. Minimal undergarments are important to protect your intimate areas. The solution should not come into contact with any mucous membranes. Use chapstick or lip balm to protect your lips, and apply a clear coat of nail polish to avoid staining your nails.

After your Spray Tan

Following your spray tan, you’ll want to give the formula time to develop. It’s important to avoid showering for 6-8 hours following your tan. Wear loose-fitting, dark colored clothing to prevent the solution from rubbing off. Consider sleeping in the same clothing to avoid staining sheets. After your initial shower, you can wear makeup and use non-alcoholic, unscented lotion as usual.

Makeup for Your Fall Wedding - Charleston, SC

With fall’s rich, vibrant colors, there is a never-ending list of options for makeup and hair. Whether you opt for subtle, elegant golds and browns, or go all-out with bright, exciting hues like reds and deep rich greens, there is a Fall makeup palette for every bride.

Laying a Foundation

Begin your makeup routine with excellent skin care. This will require taking pains weeks and even months before your planned wedding to properly cleanse and moisturize your skin. Consider coming in for a full facial treatment, and of course, have any waxing done well ahead of time so that you don’t have red or raised bumps to worry about on your special day. Your foundation should be light and offer good coverage. Avoid “shiny” products for the best photographs. Instead, your artist will use carefully placed and subtle highlights to bring out your best features without any distracting glare in your photos.

Bring Color to your Cheeks

A subtle blush or bronzer does more than add a pop of color and bring a rosy glow to your cheeks. Properly applied, it can also highlight your face. Balance and proportion are achieved by the careful use of shading and highlights. Your makeup artist will use bronzer to create a slimming effect around your nose and to subtly play up your cheekbones.

Leave the Tanning Bed Behind

It can be tempting to rush to the tanning salon in the weeks leading up to your wedding. If you’re not a regular tanner, think twice about exposing your skin to those extra UV rays. Instead, concentrate on creating a healthy glow through careful skin care routines. If you want a natural glow, consider a teeth whitening treatment rather than artificially darkening your skin. Remember too, that any tanning sessions will affect your color palette, which may negate any practice runs you’ve already done with your makeup artist. For your best and most natural look, prepare well ahead of time and discuss your preferences with your artist. It’s her job, after all, to help you look your best on your special day.

Top Fall Wedding Hair Trends | Charleston, SC

With crisp air in the forecast and a drop in the perpetual summer humidity, fall is the ideal time for many brides to plan their weddings. Cooler weather means fewer worries about makeup-melting sweat and frizzing hair, and the fall hairstyle trends are deliciously varied and versatile. Whether you’re going casual or sleek and stylish, there’s a beautiful fall do for your locks.

Looking Up

Updos are generally considered more sleek and sophisticated, but they don’t have to be formal. A slightly messy updo can be both attractive and casual. From a classic black ribbon to a piece of tulle replacing a traditional veil, the possibilities with updos are nearly endless. Consider a plaited bun to add texture to an otherwise plain do. Another option is to add a sparkling or eye-catching accessory. Fall offers opportunities to bring natural touches into your look, with leaves, flowers, or berry studded headbands, wraps, and clips that accentuate your style.

Trailing Tresses

The opposite of the updo is, of course, leaving your hair to fall naturally around your shoulders. Whether your hair is naturally curly or smoothly straight, the face-framing style gives an impression of youth and elegance. Clips and bands can be used to keep your hair from obscuring your face while letting it flow freely over your neck and shoulders. Another option is to weave in ribbons, flowers, or other accessories for an accent that brings together your look.

Half and Half

Not sure whether you want the sleek style of an updo or the casual grace of leaving your hair down? Why not both? Consider plaiting the sides of your hair and having the braids meet in the middle over the main part of your style, or wearing a ponytail or braid at the crown that flows down into the cascading locks below. Our stylists will work with you to help you choose your most stunning look for your Fall wedding. Come in for an appointment today.

Hair Extension Services | Charleston, SC

Whether you’re naturally blessed with a thick, full head of hair, but prefer to wear it shorter most of the time or have thinner hair, extensions can be a great way to add length and volume and achieve the bridal hairstyle of your dreams. While we can’t instantly transform you into Chrissy Teigen, hair extensions can give you the illusion of longer, more luxurious locks and provide you the look you’re dreaming of for your big day. There are a few things you need to know about hair extensions.

Options

There are three basic options for hair extensions- clip ons are most common for a wedding hairstyle. They’re simple to use, easy to remove, and easy on your natural hair. Next are “taped” extensions. More durable than clip-ons, taped extensions have the advantage of being more permanent. They’re not suitable, however, for a very active lifestyle, and won’t stand up well to heat or swimming. The longest-lasting option is keratin extensions. Rather than being held in with clips or glue, keratin extensions are fused to the natural hair with a special bonding agent.

Color Matching

It may be tempting to save money by purchasing extensions from a store, but if you want the most natural look, professional service is required. It’s necessary to match the extensions as closely to your natural hair color as possible. This is where your stylist comes in. The colors must be blended to match the highlights and natural variations in your natural hair.

Natural vs Synthetic

While some extensions are made of synthetic materials, the best extensions are created from natural human hair. Natural hair is best, because it’s easily styled, and looks more natural than synthetic materials. Synthetic hair tangles more easily and often has a very-shiny patina that ruins the natural look of the extensions.

Hair Coloring Salon Services | Charleston, SC

Before your big day, you’ll want to prep and make sure you look your absolute best. You’ve chosen your bridal hair style, made your waxing appointment, and settled on your makeup style. Now it’s time to get those lovely tresses colored. Make your appointment early and consult with your stylist, to help ensure you’re happy with the style and color you wear on your big day!

Prepare

When you come to your initial consultation, be sure to bring plenty of samples showing what you have in mind. It’s best to bring at least 3-5 photos of what you want, to give the stylist a firm idea of your goal. If you’re not certain of what you want, your stylist can help. She’s trained in matching your shade to your skin tone and style.

Come Clean

You may be a bit embarrassed to admit that you’ve tried a box of hair color from the drugstore. Don’t be. It’s absolutely essential that your stylist knows your hair’s history. Different treatments affect your hair, and she’ll need to know what’s been done so that she doesn’t try layering chemicals on old treatments, and causing damage.

Plan to Spend Time

Hair color can take a surprisingly long time to apply. Depending upon the shade and the degree of change, expect your appointment to last from several hours to a full day. Remember that a quality job can’t be rushed, and talk to your stylist in advance about how long your color will take.

Realistic Expectations

If your natural color is a luscious pitch black, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to go honey-blonde without extensive treatment. Your stylist knows what’s possible and what’s reasonable. She can also give you advice about what will look best with your skin tone. Take advantage of her expertise and let her help you look your best on your big day.

Waxing Services | Charleston, SC

When grooming for your upcoming wedding, you’ll want to get a new haircut, color, and experiment with several makeup styles to discover which works best for you. One area that a lot of brides-to-be neglect, however, is personal grooming. Lashes and Lace offers full spa services, including facial, body, and below-the-belt waxing. For best results, moisturize your skin every day except the day of your waxing. Exfoliate gently, and keep your skin scrupulously clean. Examine the areas to be waxed for irritation or broken skin.

Facial Waxing

Facial waxing cleans up the brow, lip, chin, sideburns, and other problem areas. Depending upon your particular situation, you may wish to opt to have individual areas waxed, or choose a full face waxing. You’ll want to schedule your waxing service for a few days to a week before the wedding, in order to allow any irritation or redness to fade before your big day.

Body Waxing

Some women have thicker, more noticeable body hair than others. If your body hair is thick or dark, you may wish to have your shoulders, arm, chest, back, or stomach waxed. Most ladies opt for at least underarm and leg waxing. Your special day should be completely free of distractions. You’ll want to look your absolute best, so treat yourself to smooth, vibrant skin.

Below-the-Belt Waxing

All of the preparations, months of anticipation and planning, lead up to a single night. Of course you want your wedding night to be perfect. Lashes and Lace Spa offers a full lineup of waxing services to suit every taste and hair type. From the classic bikini wax that trims the lady garden’s edges, to our “Kit-n-Kaboodle,” also known as a full Brazilian, we offer an option to suit your desire.

Be sure to schedule your waxing appointment well in advance and pamper yourself with silky-smooth skin for your special day.

Summer Up-Dos – Lashes and Lace Charleston, SC

When it comes to hairstyles, the options can feel overwhelming. The Charleston summer heat is no joke, so if you’re getting married in the dog days, consider the up-do option to keep your cool throughout the ceremony and beyond.

Pre-wedding Hair Care

Be sure to use clarifying shampoo and good quality conditioner in the months leading up to the wedding. Regular trims allow your hair to grow out thick and healthy. Avoid silicone or other –cone based products, as they tend to seal hair and keep vital moisture from reaching the hair shaft. Instead, seek out high quality, deep moisturizing products that bring out the natural shine without suffocating the hair shaft.

Braiding

From traditional braids to fish tails, to braided buns, to a combination of styles, the classic braid is one that never goes out of style. A slightly messy chignon knot pairs well with a braid from the side, creating a romantic look. For a more traditional look, try a braid interspersed with flowers. A fishtail- a smooth form of braid, is another more casual option that allows for a variety of forms.

Styles with a Twist

The classic ballerina bun doesn’t have to be boring. Consider adding a braid for interest and texture, leading in to the bun. Remember that your bun doesn’t have to sit daintily at the base of the neck. It can perch atop your head, framed in a flower circlet, or anchor a tiara. A side-bun can be quite elegant if styled correctly.

The Classic Ponytail

While you may not want to rock pigtails walking down the aisle, don’t overlook the humble pony tail. Especially appropriate for straight hair, a pony accessorized with a braid wrapped around its base can give your look a little extra whimsical swing while keeping your hair well off your neck.

Whatever updo look you prefer, simple or extravagant, elegant or romantic, casual or formal, talk to your stylist about your dress style, your personal preference, and your hair type, and we’ll find the perfect do for your special day.
