Are wedding bells ringing louder than ever, or is it just us? As postponed weddings continue to take effect well into 2022, it’s easy to see how the pandemic has affected the wedding industry and how it will continue to play a significant role in forging the top wedding trends for 2022. Some of the ongoing themes we expect to maintain throughout the new year consist of smaller weddings, a more guest-oriented approach, and less emphasis on tradition. To help you know what to plan for this year, we’re breaking down the top wedding trend for 2022.
Wedding Trends for 2022: Decor
Bringing the Inside Outside: With outdoor space allowing for more room and a safer option amidst an ongoing pandemic, one of the newer decor trends we have seen is to bring the indoors outside. Think luxurious couches, tables, and even chandeliers into an outdoor space like a garden or a wooded area so that neither comfort nor safety is compromised.
Cottage-Chic: Following the success of the Netflix series “Bridgerton,” we are seeing a lot of cottage-chic elements juxtaposed into elaborate ballrooms and event spaces. With this theme, pastoral features like wildflowers and hints of the countryside are as charming as they are beautiful. We also suspect that Bridgerton’s soundtrack filled with string quartet versions of contemporary hits will complete this cottage-chic feel.
Bold Flowers: Traditional flower arrangements have typically centered around muted and pastel tones, but with so many traditions having changed due to the pandemic, we are starting to see an explosion of color burst onto the floral scene. We’re especially excited to see earth and jewel tones like emeralds, oranges, and purples take center stage in bouquets and boutonnieres.
Wedding Trends for 2022: Food
Specialty Vendors: The pandemic, postponed weddings, and other factors have all led to smaller guest lists, and when you don’t have to pay for as many dinners, you may want to splurge on specialty vendors. While your favorite food vendor may not have the resources to cater a 200-person wedding, they likely have the means to serve 50 people, making for a unique dining experience.
Untraditional Menus: With fewer indoor, seated dinners comes opportunities to branch out as far as food is concerned. Stations, food trucks, and buffets allow for a more personalized touch and align with unconventional venues.
Wedding Trends for 2022: Logistics
Weekday Events: With so many rescheduled weddings, many venues are already completely booked every weekend of 2022. This means that weekday weddings will likely be more popular than ever before. If you’re open to a weekday wedding, you can also look forward to booking your dream venue at a lower price (talk about a win-win).
Destination Weddings: A smaller guest list means fewer logistics to consider when planning a destination wedding. Though navigating international travel is still a little tricky, we’re noticing a trend to even travel to cities in the U.S. for a change in scenery. Getting out of town also allows you and your guests to make up for lost travel time.
Multi-Day Events: Destination weddings and multi-day wedding events come hand-in-hand since guests are taking time to travel. Still, we’re seeing pre and post-nuptial celebrations gain in popularity for weddings of every kind. Setting up multi-day experiences like a welcome party, a post-wedding brunch, or some other activity can allow for more memories with the people you love most.
