Spray Tan for a Wedding

Spray Tan for a Wedding

When preparing for your big day, you’ll want to be sure that you’re exuding the healthy glow that reflects your joy. Your makeup, your hair, your waxing and facial, all of it comes together to create the most beautiful presentation for your walk down the aisle. Your even-toned, bronzed skin provides a healthy glow, making you shine on your big day.

Spray Tan

Although over the counter formulas are available, it’s advisable to have your spray tan professionally applied to avoid streaking, dripping, or uneven application. Some salons offer a spray tan machine, but there is still a danger of uneven application. When you come to Lashes and Lace for your spray tan, you can be assured that your tanning product will be applied by an aesthetician with experience in creating a perfectly even coat.

How Long does a Spray Tan Last?

A high quality airbrushed spray tan will last from 10 to 15 days with proper preparation before tanning and proper care following your session. Be sure to discuss with your aesthetician what to do to make your tan last as long as possible. It is recommended that you have your spray tan applied several days before your big day.

Some Tips for Your Spray Tan Session:

Shower in preparation for your session, and exfoliate. Do not apply moisturizers or lotions prior to tanning. Bring clothes that you don’t mind having stained. Loose-fitting clothes are best following your tan, so that tight clothing doesn’t rub any of the color off before it has a chance to set. Follow your aesthetician’s instructions carefully, and enjoy your new look for a full two weeks.

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last and How to Remove Eyelash Extensions

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last and How to Remove Eyelash Extensions

Getting wedding eyelash extensions done is exciting.  Your new lashes will be longer, thicker, fuller, and dramatic, requiring less or no eye makeup to create a striking look. How long do eyelash extensions last? The answer depends on several factors, including the care you take care of them.

Longevity of Semi-Permanent Applications

There are two options for enhancing your lashes- semi-permanent and permanent eyelash extensions. The most commonly applied extensions are semi-permanent. There are several options with semi-permanent lashes, from synthetic to mink extensions. All are applied similarly with surgical glue, to the existing lashes.  The semi-permanent lashes will grow out with the natural lashes and shed as they fall out. The eyelash extension glue is incredibly strong and designed to resist sweat, water, and wear. Your aesthetician can show you how to remove eyelash extensions, or you may wish to simply have it professionally done following your big day.

What about Permanent Extensions?

Permanent extensions are completely different from semi-permanent, as they are implanted in a surgical procedure. They are normally offered to patients who have suffered hair loss related to some disease or condition like chemotherapy or alopecia. Permanent eyelash extensions are durable, lasting  a lifetime, and require almost no special care, but they are also expensive. Semi-permanent extensions are more appropriate for most people.

Removing Your Extensions

The best method of eyelash extension removal is to have your aesthetician handle the removal for you. It takes just a few minutes, and there’s no danger of damage to your natural lashes. Your technician will use a gentle, specialized chemical to dissolve the eyelash extensions glue and remove the extensions, leaving your natural lashes intact and healthy. With proper care, your eyelash extensions will provide you a dramatic look for your special day, and when you’re ready to get your natural look back, are easily removed. Wedding Transportation

Our brides constantly ask us for recommendations on wedding party & wedding guest transportations. Our friends at Charleston Party Buses are super reliable, friendly, & prompt leaving our brides with a wonderful experience! See below for information & booking details - tell them Lashes & Lace sent you!

Wedding Transportation in Charleston

Finding the vendors for your wedding is the biggest battle of wedding planning. There are so many different services and businesses to choose from, particularly when it comes to transportation. Whether you're looking for sedan service, exotic cars, limousines, or a party bus for your wedding day, there are some things you should keep in mind so you find the best possible provider for your specific needs.

Check out the vehicle in person

This is incredibly important! Before you book a vehicle, you want to make sure it is exactly how it is described on their website. The last thing you want is to be in a damaged or unhygienic vehicle on your wedding day. It's not uncommon for shady transportation companies to post pictures of vehicles they don't actually own. When you view it in person, there wont be any potential surprises on the day of your wedding.

Look over the contract

Contracts are vital documents for any wedding vendor decision. They outline all of the details you need to know as well as expectations so all parties are on the same page. When it comes to transportation providers,  you're specifically going to want to look out for fees regarding mileage, tax, fuel, or tip to the driver. Don't put yourself in a position to be surprised by extra fees!

Check if they have been to your venue before

If a chauffeur has never been to your wedding venue, it can cause minor issues. If they are unfamiliar with pick up and drop off locations or details on where they're able to park the vehicle, you're easily looking at an extra 30 minutes to an hour added to your wedding schedule. This could cause a domino effect with your other vendors, so be sure to ask if they have experience with your chosen venue.

Invite your photographer on board

This is something that is usually overlooked, but it shouldn't be! Inviting your photographer on board your wedding vehicle will definitely enhance your wedding photos. This is because there are a lot of genuine moments to capture when you're in between destinations on your wedding day socializing with your wedding party and sweetheart. Be sure to consider this when you're choosing a vehicle so you have enough space!

Providing transportation isn't just a kind gesture to your guests, it's also the best way to ensure safety for those who will be partying through the night. This is particularly helpful for any guests who will be unfamiliar with the area coming in from out of town. Whether you're providing shuttle service for guests or simply looking for the best transportation solution for yourself and your wedding party to get from one destination to the next, we hope these tips have helped you in your search. Popular Wedding Hairstyles

Popular Wedding Hairstyles

The most popular wedding hair styles this year run the gamut from formal to casual, from sweeping updos to artfully tousled pony tails to half-up half-down hairstyles to smooth, shining braids. The style you choose for your big day depends upon the formality of your event and the texture and length of your own hair. Your stylist will want to see pictures of what styles you have in mind, and will work with you to create a style that’s uniquely yours for your big day.

Long Hair

Wedding styles for long hair are diverse and versatile. You may choose an updo, a cascading style, or a half-up, depending upon your personal style and the look you’re going for. Our stylists will go over pictures of various styles with you and help you decide what will best fit your facial features, hair texture, and personal taste. With long hair, it’s possible to create a cascading half-updo with a smooth bun or braid at the crown of the head, with tendrils of hair hanging romantically down. Or, you may prefer a full updo with braiding or a bun for a sleek, smooth style.

Shorter Hair

Some women fear that having shorter hair will limit their options when it comes to styles for the big day, but the contrary is true. There are many attractive wedding styles for short hair. The use of accessories like clips or combs can add extra flair, while curling and shaping create a pleasing shape. No matter how long or short your hair, we will work with you to create the style that fits your special day.

Ethnicity

There are as many different hair textures as there are brides. Whether your hair tends to fall into tight curls, lay fine and smooth, or is thick and straight will affect the style you choose. Wedding styles for black women run the gamut from natural to smooth. Many people of color enjoy thick, textured hair that is a pleasure to work with and offers opportunities for a variety of stylish and beautiful hairdos. When perusing photos of styles you’d like to emulate, consider your hair’s length and texture as well as your own personal style, and our stylists will help you accomplish the style that’s uniquely and magnificently yours.

What A Deep Conditioning Treatment Can Do For Your Hair

What A Deep Conditioning Treatment Can Do For Your Hair

The daily attacks on your hair create miniscule areas of damage on the surface of the shaft that may not be visible to the naked eye. Wind, sun, heat and styling damage all combine to make hair look dull, lifeless, and limp. Regular deep conditioning treatments restore your hair’s natural shine and bounce.

The Chemistry Behind the Treatment

When we wash our hair, the detergents in shampoo remove natural protective oils from the scalp and hair shaft. The same oils which make our hair feel “greasy” if left to accumulate too long are actually the body’s natural protective covering. Shampoo strips them away. A deep conditioning treatment restores the natural balance and smooths the surface of the hair. Surfactants are the molecules that make up the deep conditioning treatment. They bond to the surface of the hair shaft, improving the quality of the shaft’s surface and creating a natural, healthy glow.

Strength and Conditioning

Most deep conditioning treatments contain keratin and other ingredients that are designed to improve the hair shafts’ strength, flexibility, and durability. Your hair will break less easily and the improved tensile strength will reduce split and “dead” ends. Your hair will be softer, feel fuller, and more manageable overall. The surfactants in the conditioner bond with your hair, creating a soft, smooth surface on each hair shaft.

Prevent Damage

Deep conditioning helps reduce breakage and split ends, and provides a healthier hair shaft that’s ready to accept styling, treatments and coloring. When used as a regular part of your routine, deep conditioning treatments for your hair improve elasticity and strength. Natural shine is restored as well, providing  fuller body and a look of improved overall health.

How to Prepare For Your Waxing Appointment

Getting ready for a waxing appointment is a process that takes weeks, so it’s best to plan far ahead for the best results. Being alert to changes in your skin, especially irritation or sunburn, and properly preparing the site to be waxed can help make the difference between long-lasting results and an unpleasant experience.

Check Your Skin

Be sure to check the site thoroughly for signs of irritation before your appointment. Any irritated or sunburnt skin will be aggravated by a waxing, and your esthetician may not be able to apply the wax if your skin shows sign of rash or other irritation. Your health and safety are always the number one priority, and we want to be sure that your skin is healthy before applying any product.

Grow Out Your Hair

Prior to waxing, you’ll need to let the hair to be waxed grow out long enough so that the wax has something to grip. You’ll want to have at least two to three weeks’ worth of growth if not more. It’s ideal to have the hair longer, to give the wax something to grab on to. At least an eighth to a quarter of an inch is ideal for your waxing appointment.

waxingappointment_360x300.jpg

Exfoliation and Moisturizers

A day or two before your appointment, take the time to gently exfoliate your skin. The preparation helps the wax grab the hair rather than the skin, but you don’t want to take off too many layers, leaving your skin sensitive. Avoid chemical peels and harsh exfoliation for several weeks prior to your appointment. Moisturize your skin up until the day before your appointment, to keep your skin healthy. Don’t moisturize the day of your appointment, or the wax won’t stick well to the hair.

Medication Dos and Don’ts

If you have sensitive skin, consider taking an over-the-counter pain medication just prior to your appointment. An ibuprofen or something similar will help reduce your sensitivity and prevent inflammation. Immediately following your waxing, apply aloe, cortisone, or an antibacterial salve to calm and sooth the treated area. Be sure to talk to your doctor about any medications you may be taking prior to your appointment. You should stop using any creams or products containing Retinol for at least two weeks before your appointment. Accutane users should also discontinue use for a full month prior to their appointment. Be sure to speak with your doctor about any changes to prescription medications.

Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial Run- Why You Need It

Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial Run- Why You Need It

Your big day requires preparation and care. You’ve tried on your dress, had it fitted and adjusted to make sure it will be perfect for your wedding. You’ve taken the time to choose the perfect shoes, the perfect veil, and perfect accessories. Why would you take any less care with your hair and makeup? Trial runs help solidify your final look and ensure that everything is perfect on your big day.

Hair

If you’re going to cut, color, or otherwise change your hair, you’ll want to do so well in advance of the wedding, and allow for time for a final styling before the big day. Your artist needs time to perfect your style and ensure that you get the look you’re aiming for. If you’ve had a trial run, you know what your final look is like and you know your hair will cooperate in falling into place with the style you’ve chosen. A trial run helps ensure that the look you found in a magazine or on a website that you thought looked fabulous on the model still works when applied to your own hair.

Makeup

Choosing your pallete is an important part of your overall wedding day look. Your artist is skilled at choosing the correct colors for your skin tone and desired level of formality, but she will need time to experiment with the look you want. Communication is key, and showing your artist several pictures of the look you’d like to emulate helps ensure you get the perfect makeup for your big day. A trial run gives you time to experiment with different looks and get the one you want.

Give Yourself Time

Schedule your hair and makeup trials well in advance of the wedding itself, but not more than 3-4 weeks in advance, to allow time for changes to your plan or look. Those final weeks will fly by in a whirl of activity, so be sure to allow plenty of time for facials, tanning, hair appointments, and waxing. We work with you to ensure your big day goes smoothly. Schedule your appointment today.

Onsite Bridal hair & Makeup - What to expect.

The Lashes & Lace team will work with you throughout the process of planning your wedding to assure that you can count on us to be on time and prepared on your big day. A trial run allows you to try several looks and we’ll take pictures so that your preferred style can be perfectly recreated on your wedding day.

Looking Back at a 2017 Trend: Lash Extensions

45680273 - woman eye with long eyelashes. eyelash extension

Ah, mermaid lashes. Those long, voluptuous, iridescent colored lashes that were all the rage last year. While that specific trend has cooled in popularity, lash extensions have been around since 1911 and are a trend that is not likely to go away any time soon.

Pros of Lash Extensions

Imagine waking up in the morning and not needing to reach for any mascara to wake yours eyes up and make them stand out. Imagine having long, fluttering lashes without the least bit of effort on your part. That is the advantage to lash extensions. They enhance the natural look of your lashes and add a touch of magic and romance to any look. You don’t need smudge-proof mascara; your lash extensions hold their color beautifully. There’s no need for makeup remover or worry about smudging. Lash extensions can give you a confidence boost and be the finishing touch on your preparations for your big day.

Is there a Down Side?

For most women, the only downside of lash extensions is the cost and effort of maintenance. If you’re going to wear extensions all the time, it can become a chore to remember to keep them dry, not to rub your eyes, and to spend an hour having your lashes refilled. If you’re getting extensions for a special occasion, however, like your wedding, lash extensions are very affordable and convenient, and add a sparkle to your look that’s difficult to match with any other technique.

Lashes and Lace Lash Extensions

When you have your lashes extensions applied by one of our Lashes and Lace estheticians, you can have confidence knowing that our trained staff applies the highest quality extensions, ensuring the fairy tale look you’re seeking for your special day. Add airbrushed or traditionally applied makeup and our hair salon and skin care services, and you’ll feel like a princess walking down the aisle. Call today for your consultation and we’ll start planning your wedding look.

Everything You Need To Know Before Your Waxing Appointment

49546437 - close up image of beautiful female legs with smooth skin after waxing.

For many brides, waxing has not been a normal part of their routine, but they want to look and feel their radiant best for their special day. Preparing for your waxing appointment ensures that you’ll have smooth, glowing skin following the appointment and for several weeks to come. It also ensures that your waxing is as comfortable and effective as possible.

Several Weeks Before

Stop shaving between one and two weeks before your appointment. You want your hair to be long enough for the wax to grab, but not too long or the waxing will be less effective. 1/8 to ¼ inch is the ideal length. Monitor your hair growth and stop shaving for one to two weeks prior to your appointment. If you’re going for a bikini wax, trim the hair to be waxed down to the ¼ to 1/8 length prior to your appointment for the best results. Examine your skin carefully. Any irritation or broken skin will have to heal before it can be waxed.

Several Days Before

Leading up to your waxing appointment, you’ll want to continue your moisturizing routine. Plump, healthy skin will respond best to the waxing, and will more easily release the wax from the skin, leaving you less sensitive and resulting in an overall more comfortable experience. Continue your exfoliating routine, as well, but avoid using harsh creams or techniques in the days leading up to your waxing. You don’t want your skin to be overly sensitive. Washing with a washcloth is a good option. Just be sure not to scrub too hard. If you’re going for a bikini wax, keep the area scrupulously clean leading up to your appointment. You’ll want the skin to be as healthy as possible.

The Day of Your Waxing

When the big day comes, first of all, relax! You’re doing something good for yourself. Avoid heavy exfoliation. Wash with a mild soap, and skip the moisturizer. If you’re having your eyebrows or facial hair waxed, skip the makeup as well. Plan to relax and pamper your skin for the rest of the day. Be sure to pick up a soothing salve like a cortisone cream to apply following your appointment, and avoid heavy exercise and sun for a day or so following your waxing. Most of all, enjoy your new, smooth, beautiful skin!

Bridal Airbrushing | Charleston, SC

29244316 - beauty and jewelery concept - beautiful woman with pearl earrings and bracelet

When choosing between bridal airbrushing and traditional makeup, there are some differences that you need to understand.  Each option has pros and cons. Airbrushed makeup is waterproof and does not transfer onto other surfaces, while traditional makeup may offer more versatility in your look. The best way to choose your makeup is to plan ahead. Book practice appointments with your makeup artist, and we’ll try several looks to ensure that you get the one you want on your big day.

Airbrushed Makeup

Airbrushed makeup is applied by an experienced Lashes and Lace technician. It goes on in an ultra-thin layer, letting your own natural glow shine through. Waterproof and smudge-resistant, airbrushed makeup doesn’t need to be touched up throughout the day or evening hours. An application can last as long as 16 hours, and will maintain a flawless look throughout. Be sure to “blot” rather than wiping at sweat or tears to maintain your makeup. Airbrushing is recommended for brides who are concerned about blemishes, spotting, or uneven tones in their skin. Combined with a full facial from Lashes and Lace, an airbrushed look can give you a flawless face for your wedding day.

Traditional Makeup

Traditional makeup comes in the widest variety of shades, consistencies, and quality. At Lashes and Lace, we use only the highest quality products. Traditional makeup is applied using sponges, applicators, and even fingertips. You can choose from nearly any color. Your artist will work with you to discover the hues that best reflect your natural beauty and fit into the theme of your wedding. Traditional makeup may require minor touch ups throughout the hours following application. Your makeup artist will discuss maintenance and care of your makeup with you at your appointment.

How to Choose

Your choice of traditional or airbrushed bridal makeup will depend upon a number of factors. The type of palate you want for your makeup, whether you prefer sheer or full coverage, a matte or satin look, and your personal preference will all come into play. Be sure to book your appointment with us well ahead of time, so that you and your artist can discuss your look and experiment to find the right look for you. Call today to book your appointment with a Lashes and Lace artist.

Flower Girl Hair (10 & Under) in Charleston, SC

Next to the bride, the flower girl is the minor star of the wedding-day show. She’s the supporting cast to the bride’s big walk down the aisle, preparing the guests for the stunning beauty of the bride with the charm of an innocent. You’ll want your flower girl’s style to match your bridesmaids’ and the overall theme of your wedding. Dealing with children during a formal service which requires expected behaviors can be challenging, but with some flexibility and understanding of the child’s personality, needs, and comfort, she can bring memorable moments to your wedding day. Your best bet? Consult the child’s parents in matters of comfort, and keep those suggestions in mind when choosing a hairstyle for your flower girl.

Updos

27838827 - close up detail of french twist and permanent wave hairstyle.

The classic updo is a splendid choice for a child’s fine hair. A smooth top knot, messy bun, braided bun, or twist, the possibilities are nearly endless. Children’s hair tends to be finer and lighter than adults’ hair, so take into consideration the volume of the child’s hair and the shape of the face when choosing the right updo. Ideally, the hair should frame the cherubic face, and the design of the updo should provide a nice contrast of texture and smoothness. Adding flowers, a headband, tiara, or other accessory is a nice foil for smooth, straight hair.

Natural Beauty

You may choose a more casual style for your flower girl, especially if the child is sensitive. Tight updos may be uncomfortable for some children. If she’s uncomfortable, it’s less likely that you can expect your flower girl to carry out her duties smoothly and with a smile. Casual styles may include a half-braid which stops half-way down and blends into the rest of the hair, or twists that bring the top and front of the hair back and away from the face. Half-updo styles allow for creativity and adding texture to the style without the need for tight fastenings that might make the child uncomfortable. Lashes and Lace salon staff has extensive experience in creating beautiful, comfortable styles for children. Make your appointment today.

Spray Tans for your Fall Wedding | Charleston, SC

With fall around the corner, the golden glow you worked so hard to obtain all summer may be fading. Or you may be following a healthier routine of avoiding over-exposure to the sun. Whatever the case, a spray tan with FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a safe and attractive alternative to putting your skin at risk under tanning lamps. Coming in for a spray tan prior to your wedding is the best way to ensure you carry a healthy glow down the aisle on your special day.

Before Your Spray Tan

A spray tan lasts, on average, 4-10 days, depending upon your maintenance routine and your skin chemistry. You’ll want to plan your appointment accordingly. Any waxing appointments or exfoliation, including facials or chemical peels, should be completed well in advance of your tanning appointment. It is recommended that you wax a full 24 hours before your tanning session, to allow your skin time to prepare.

On the day of your appointment, shower and exfoliate to remove any dead skin cells. This will help ensure the product is applied evenly and prevent streaking or patching. Do not apply any lotions or use scented body wash. Plan to wear dark, loose-fitting clothing. You will not be able to shower, swim, or engage in vigorous exercise for at least 6-8 hours following your tanning session.

During your Spray Tan Appointment

78602888 - cosmetologist using aerograph for spray tan apply to young woman leg in beauty salon.

You may wish to wear minimal clothing during your appointment for the best coverage. Remember that any clothing will result in tan lines. Minimal undergarments are important to protect your intimate areas. The solution should not come into contact with any mucous membranes. Use chapstick or lip balm to protect your lips, and apply a clear coat of nail polish to avoid staining your nails.

After your Spray Tan

Following your spray tan, you’ll want to give the formula time to develop. It’s important to avoid showering for 6-8 hours following your tan. Wear loose-fitting, dark colored clothing to prevent the solution from rubbing off. Consider sleeping in the same clothing to avoid staining sheets. After your initial shower, you can wear makeup and use non-alcoholic, unscented lotion as usual.

Makeup for Your Fall Wedding - Charleston, SC

With fall’s rich, vibrant colors, there is a never-ending list of options for makeup and hair. Whether you opt for subtle, elegant golds and browns, or go all-out with bright, exciting hues like reds and deep rich greens, there is a Fall makeup palette for every bride.

Laying a Foundation

45258244 - happy couple whose wedding photo shoot in a golden autumn

Begin your makeup routine with excellent skin care. This will require taking pains weeks and even months before your planned wedding to properly cleanse and moisturize your skin. Consider coming in for a full facial treatment, and of course, have any waxing done well ahead of time so that you don’t have red or raised bumps to worry about on your special day. Your foundation should be light and offer good coverage. Avoid “shiny” products for the best photographs. Instead, your artist will use carefully placed and subtle highlights to bring out your best features without any distracting glare in your photos.

Bring Color to your Cheeks

A subtle blush or bronzer does more than add a pop of color and bring a rosy glow to your cheeks. Properly applied, it can also highlight your face. Balance and proportion are achieved by the careful use of shading and highlights. Your makeup artist will use bronzer to create a slimming effect around your nose and to subtly play up your cheekbones.

Leave the Tanning Bed Behind

It can be tempting to rush to the tanning salon in the weeks leading up to your wedding. If you’re not a regular tanner, think twice about exposing your skin to those extra UV rays. Instead, concentrate on creating a healthy glow through careful skin care routines. If you want a natural glow, consider a teeth whitening treatment rather than artificially darkening your skin. Remember too, that any tanning sessions will affect your color palette, which may negate any practice runs you’ve already done with your makeup artist. For your best and most natural look, prepare well ahead of time and discuss your preferences with your artist. It’s her job, after all, to help you look your best on your special day.
